A Message from our Superintendent

Dr. Tamra S. Collins

March is known for March Madness…a time for college basketball tournaments, but also gets its name from “a form of madness said to affect people in March.” But instead of madness, our District 19 all women team intentionally chose to celebrate in March. We knew that if we come together and Believe, Hope & Dream…we will succeed together! I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our principals, but truly highlight our women principals this month in celebration of Women’s History Month. Thank you for leading, nurturing, supporting, and showing up every day to be a role model for all of our girls. It is important that as women we empower other women and girls. Because we all know…when women come together, we get the job done!

Throughout the month we had an opportunity to highlight and celebrate Movers & Shakers in our community who are making a difference. During the Community Wellness check-in we celebrated CEC President Joyce French, CEC Treasurer Evelyn Pugh, Senator Roxanne Persaud, and Executive Superintendent Karen Watts for their commitment to ensuring D19 receives theresources we need to go all the way and beyond. Additionally, the D19 GEM Squad had the honor of participating in the 1st Annual Her-Story Walk at Shirley Chisholm Park. It was a great day of community, celebration and empowerment. I’d also like to shout out IS 171, JHS 292, and PS 325 for their amazing Women’s History Month celebrations. Thank you IS 171 for highlighting Senator Persaud and myself, I was truly honored. I’d also like to thank Jamila Davis who was the keynote speaker at JHS 292, and Misa Hylton who was the honorary speaker at PS 325 who poured love and inspiration into our girls.

The celebrations didn’t stop there…we kicked off the month with our district-wide “Your Presence is Our Present” celebration. It was so amazing to visit schools, see your photos, and celebrate with the top attendance winners. We are ready for the rematch! We also celebrated our district-wide Pi-Day, having fun with math. And last but not least, we celebrate all of the hard work of our students on giving it their very best on the NYS ELA test.

While March may be known for March Madness around the world,

in District 19 it is affectionally known as Marvelous March!
